The Orphanage

Yesterday, Virgina Patriot suggested I put up a new essay as the thread on the last one was getting kind of long -- 219 comments as of right now. Thanks, all!

He also mentioned that The Island has become kind of a touch-base for the disaffected conservatives; I'm flattered. To quote VaPat: "How about posting something/anything as often as needed just to provide a place for we happy few to hang out among friends? It doesn't have to be anything more than a 'Hey Guys, Here's another thread, the last one's too long.'"

Sounds like a plan to me! I'll keep an eye on comment count on the threads, and start a new one when required. No real topic, necessarily, just kind of an open forum.

And since we ARE disowned pretty much by our former "comrades", I got thinking about Reagan, and his statement that "I didn't leave the Democrat Party. The Democrat Party left me". Now I truly understand what he meant. At least in his time, there was a viable home for him to move to: the Goldwater wing of the GOP.

For us right now, there isn't that option. We've become orphans for now, hence the title of this essay. The Island has become The Orphanage.

And that's okay, because as Henry V said on St. Crispin's Day at the Battle of Agincourt (per The Bard), "We few, we happy few, we band of brothers (and sisters), for he (or she) today who sheds his (or her) blood with me shall be my brother (or sister)". Of course, there weren't any battle participants of the fairer sex, so I kinda broadened the applicability.... but you get my drift. And the reference in VaPat's comment.

It has been very eye-opening to see the absolute hysteria with which dissent has been met. Pretty funny, too, frankly!
